Is Vanguard Europe's ETF sleeping giant? - ETF Stream

Image
While some forecast Vanguard could overtake BlackRock as the largest ETF issuer within the next decade, the firm has yet to break into the top three in Europe. Can it climb the ranks and if so, what will drive this shift?  Unlike its foundational role in index funds under founder and chairman Jack Bogle, Vanguard has largely been happy to waive the role of first mover when it comes to ETFs.  In his  Little Book of Common Sense Investing , Bogle said the pioneer of the first ETF, Nathan Most, approached him with an offer to list the first ETF in the US, however, Bogle turned down the offer in a decision that paved the way for the arrival of State Street Global Advisors' headline SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY).  "The late Nathan Most, a fine man, initially offered to partner with Vanguard, using our S&P 500 index fund as the trading vehicle," Bogle said. "Since I see trading as a loser's game for investors and a win...

‘Bringing some of the investor protections to it’: How EDX Markets is embracing TradFi to become the safest bet in crypto - Fortune

Image
Jamil Nazarali knows what he wants to do at EDX Markets—and what he wants to avoid. The new crypto exchange, backed by established players in traditional finance like Citadel Securities, Fidelity, and Charles Schwab, is poised to fill a void largely created when FTX blew up and which may expand depending on legal rulings for Binance and Coinbase. "We deliberately built our business model in a way that avoids some of the problems that the other exchanges are facing right now," Nazarali, CEO of EDX, told Fortune . For EDX, this means embracing innovations of the crypto space but also clinging to some of the best practices seen in traditional finance. At the new exchange, launched Tuesday, customers can still trade four cryptocurrencies nearly 24/7, but the exchange will separate the broker, the dealer, and the exchange functions of trading, Nazarali said. And it will not hold retail clients' money. Many potential crypto investors are still cu...

After big Memorial Day systems merger, Charles Schwab & Co. gets ... - RIABiz

Image
TD employees will share that these and other issues were surfaced to Schwab leadership as far back as 2020 and regularly since, but they were/are ignored and dismissed. Customers have been voicing concerns all along, and with it becoming clear that Schwab lacks TD's service and tech chops, its likely to get louder. At the same time, Schwab's employee engagement measures have allegedly cratered in the face of vague and unmet commitments, uncommunicative absentee executives, etc. and the key contributor brain drain would seem to support that notion. Now in reality, such is the life of customers and employees of almost every acquired company, and some people can't be made happy. You have to take it with a boulder of salt, but this does bear watching. Buying TD should have been a slam dunk win for CS, but does it seem like anyone besides the Schwab execs believe they are winning?

Bitcoin is up 12% this month — even though barely anybody is trading it - CNBC

Image
In this article BTC.CM= Follow your favorite stocks CREATE FREE ACCOUNT Andriy Onufriyenko | Moment | Getty Images Bitcoin has rallied sharply this month — but not for reasons you might think. The world's largest digital currency has risen more than 12% since the beginning of June. On Wednesday, its price topped $30,000 to hit its highest level since April 14, according to Coin Metrics data. Market players have attributed the jump to the news that U.S. asset management giant BlackRock had filed for a spot bitcoin exchange-traded fund tracking the market price of the underlying asset. While that may be part of the reason, the outsized moved can be put down to another factor beyond the news flow surrounding large institutions taking steps to embrace bitcoin or other digital assets. Thin liquidity and big players Crypto "market depth" has been sitting at very low levels this year. Market depth refers to a market's ability to absorb relatively large buy and sell orders. ...
