Iran ramps up cryptocurrency mining operations - Express

- January 29, 2020

Tehran officials have recently issued more than a thousand licences as Iranian financial leaders look to tackle an ever-diminishing economy by grabbing digital assets like bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP and Bitcoin Cash. It is understood the Iranian government has given a direct order to invest heavily in crypto as it looks to skirt around Washington’s financial penalties. Curiously, cryptocurrency trading in Iran is illegal. However, the government is keen to employ the services of companies and individuals capable of mining and storing vast amounts of digital funds. According to Amir-Hossein Saeedi Naeeni - a member of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Guild Organisation’s blockchain commission – the strict laws over trading had forced many miners to leave Iran. “The laws announced by government institutions for crypto mining are very strict in comparison to other industries in the country, causing many miners to stop operating or migrate to the regional countries f...

Tron founder Justin Sun and his many escapes - The Verge

- March 17, 2022

Justin Sun, a budding Chinese cryptocurrency mogul, walked through the shiny lofted atrium of the departure terminal at South Korea's Incheon International Airport. It was September 2017, an early height of the crypto craze, and Sun had every reason to be nervous after his first ICO. An ICO, or initial coin offering, is like an initial public offering for a new stock. It's the first time cryptocurrency traders have the opportunity to buy a brand-new token. But Sun wasn't anxious about the money he stood to gain if it took off or what he'd lose if the token flopped. In fact, his company, Tron, introduced a coin called TRX — a huge success, selling out quickly for $70 million. The problem for Sun was that the Chinese government, just days before, had banned ICOs entirely.  The state claimed ICOs were vehicles for financial fraud, pyramid schemes, and other illegal and criminal activities — a credible claim because, in 2017, hu...

Ledn using MakerDAO to disburse loans in DAI to unbanked - Decrypt Ledn using MakerDAO to disburse loans in DAI to unbanked - Decrypt Posted: 29 Oct 2019 10:58 AM PDT Canadian startup Ledn has now expanded its bitcoin-backed loan offering to include the US dollar-pegged stablecoin DAI, which is issued by MakerDAO . This enables those making loans on the platform to receive their money in DAI—keeping the door open for the unbanked. Ledn is a way for Bitcoiners to lend their treasured coins out to other people. Coins are stored with BitGo , and are insured throughout the process. Currently, it offers a 1 percent monthly interest rate. But, according to a recent blog post , Ledn notes that some users face issues with receiving US dollar payouts. These include delays and expensive wire transfer fees—let alone those in underdeveloped countries who don't have access to banks. To solve this problem, it has introduced DAI as a way for people t...

Bitcoin Price Analysis: Is BTC/USD Technically And Fundamentally Prepared For A Run-up to $7,000? - Coingape

- March 18, 2020

Bitcoin price correlation with the traditional markets early start is worrying. Bitcoin price recovery is likely to continue stalling under $6,000 as it is not fundamentally ready for a rally. Bitcoin price correlation with the stock market is astonishing. Moreover, it has started sooner than it was expected. Many in the cryptocurrency market have been shocked by Bitcoin’s over 40% crash in the last week. The crash was so great that comeback signs were non-existent. Moreover, Bitcoin’s fundamental on-chain metrics have undergone major drastic changes in this period as well. Bitcoin’s volatility index, for instance, overshadowed levels in January and February when the price rallied to $10,500 from around $7,000. Discussions surrounding Bitcoin correlation with S&P 500 have taken center stage across the industry but a report by Kraken suggests that this correlation has been growing since the beginning of the year but has made rapid movements in the last seven days. At the mo...

The shift was detected by Twitter-based blockchain monitor @whale_alert, which confirmed that the 40 BTC featured in the transaction were mined in the first month of Bitcoin‘s existence. 👤👤👤 40 #BTC (391,055 USD) transferred from possible #Satoshi owned wallet (dormant since 2009) to unknown wallet ℹ️ The coins in this transaction were mined in the first month of Bitcoin's existence.
